Due to the complications stemming from the troubled Broadway production of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, director Julie Taymor has canceled an upcoming speaking engagement at a New York Times event in which she was to be interviewed by staffer Patrick Healy!
According to a press representative:
"With the changes to the Spider-Man production schedule, Julie will be deep in rehearsals and will not be available to participate."
Somehow, we think there's a little more to it than that!
Earlier today, 50 Cent (née Curtis James Jackson, III) took some time out of his bizzy creepin’ around with comedienne Chelsea Handler schedule to announce to his legion of Twitter followers that he is making himself available to shovel people’s show for the low, low price of $100 … tho, it’ll cost you a bit [...]
The happily pregs Penélope Cruz was spotted out and about here in SoCal last week doing a bit of last minute shopping. Penélope took her burgeoning Baby Bump to the Ed Hardy store on Melrose Ave. in West Hollywood, CA … erm, I guess there is no accounting for taste.
Despite Penélope‘s OBVS bad taste in shopping habits, I still heart her entirely and cannot WAIT for her to bring forth the fruit of her loins. I love how pleasantly plump she is getting. Pregnancy looks very good on her. I can’t wait ’til she pops!! Wee!!!

Should be fun to see what kind of mischief the little blue guys, and little blue Katy Perry get into in NYC.
You may know Jeffrey Cain from his band Remy Zero, and their contribution of the song "Fair" on the Garden State Soundtrack. Or if you were lucky enough, you may have even caught them opening for Radiohead on the "Bends" tour. You may also have heard the Emmy Nominated theme song to FX's Nip/Tuck... also his. The following is an interview I conducted on 12/6/10 with Jeffrey, a man who is equal parts humble as grateful.
The industrious folks at Next Media responsible for all those timely and very entertaining animated news clips about the various scandals and foibles that celebrities have recently gotten themselves involved in, have turned their attention to the embattled Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. As usual, the clip chronicles the story pretty descriptively and [...]

Our dear Britney Spears and her beau Jason Trawick packed up their bags and made their way to the East Coast yesterday, presumably to spend the holiday weekend in NYC together. Britney, with her cute pink hoodie and not-too–cute black UGGs boots, and Jason — with Xmas gifts in hand — were spotted making their way thru JFK Airport late yesterday evening upon arrival.
As you may know, Jason‘s family lives in NY (I believe they are on Long Island) so it’s nice to see that Britwick decided to spend Xmas with them, especially since they spent Thanksgiving in Kentwood, LA with Britney‘s family last month. Here’s hoping Britney‘s little Xmas Elves — Sean Preston and Jayden James — will be able to join their mother and Jason in NY before Santa Claus makes his appointed rounds tonight ;)

I'm often asked how we find the content for our music archive website, afterall our ethos is to save rock/pop music history, so how do you go about doing that? Well the first thing to say is it's not easy, but actually it's not that hard either. If you ask enough people somebodies brother will have been in a band, or managed an artist or nearly made it, however that is usually of little value, yes they may have a story to tell and we love recording them but generally those introductions don't lead very far.

Many people would rightly claim that the excellent advantage associated with sequenced, electronic drums is which they don't pressure you to utilize 'realistic' drum patterns or sounds. Much dance music, for instance, is built around incredibly quick, precise patterns and sounds which bear only the loosest connection to anything you can actually create by striking a stretched skin with a wooden stick.
How search engines help artists promote their music online, could be exciting news for an artist. With the music industry changing, and the online downloads growing, artists need to be knowledgeable on how to promote themselves online. There are websites that can help artists get their websites noticed. It is important to be able to obtain a ranking for their web page. A website is not really affective for promoting an artist's music, if the site is unable to attract traffic to the web page. How does an artist get their web page ranked, and why is it important for an artist to have such a ranking?

Leslie Nielsen: 'I'm just having fun' STORY HIGHLIGHTS NEW: "He was the life of the party," his nephew saysNielsen died of complications from pneumonia, his family saysThe earnest dramatic actor became a comedy star after "Airplane!"He played the captain in the 1972 disaster movie, "The Poseidon Adventure" (CNN) -- Leslie Nielsen, whose longtime career as a square-jawed dramatic actor took a sudden turn into comedy with gut-busting spoofs like "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun," has died at age 84, his family said Sunday. The Canadian-born Nielsen's career reached back into the early days of television, when he made frequent appearances on live drama series like "Goodyear Playhouse." He played the earnest starship captain in the 1956 science-fiction classic "Forbidden Planet" and made regular appearances on a wide range of TV dramas into the 1970s, including "Hawaii Five-O." He also played the captain of an overturned ocean liner in the 1972 disaster movie, "The Poseidon Adventure." Much of that changed in 1980, when he was cast as a doctor aboard an endangered jetliner in the gag-a-minute disaster-movie parody "Airplane!" Nielsen's deadpan response to the question "Surely, you can't be serious?" with "I am serious -- and don't call me Shirley" helped launch a second career.

With the November 19 release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" very quickly approaching, we Potterheads are torn between uncontrollable excitement and trepidation-bordering-on-sadness, due to the fact that this film brings us a little bit closer to the End. Of. It. All. However, conflicting emotions aside, we are happy to report [...]
Noomi Rapace, a.k.a. the original Swedish "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," may not have landed the Lisbeth Salander role in the planned U.S. adaptation of the Millennium Trilogy... but she isn't having trouble nabbing meaty roles in other big-budget tentpoles. She's already been cast as the female lead opposite Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes 2," and now comes news that she's a strong candidate to play the E.T.-butt-kicking lead in Ridley Scott's 3-D "Alien" prequel.
According to Deadline, studio 20th Century Fox has also met with actresses Abbie Cornish and Carey Mulligan about the part, but Rapace reportedly left a "strong impression."
We wish we could say that Rapace -- or whoever ultimately lands the role -- will be playing a younger version of Sigourney Weaver's iconic Lt. Ellen Ripley, but, alas, that seems unlikely. Scott told Empire last year that the movie will be set roughly 30 years before the original "Alien," which would make the year 2085 and would make Ellen Ripley a zygote.
The prequel will reportedly delve into the origins of that mummified alien Ripley and co. discover in the first "Alien," and could conceivably spawn a second prequel movie (a prequel sequel).
We'd be stoked to see Rapace kick some "Alien" ass -- would you? Let us know in the comments!

Harry, Ron and Hermione may find some of those elusive Horcruxes in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1," but there is one thing they won't find, no matter how hard they look: a third dimension. And neither will the audience.
Warner Bros. announced today that "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" will not -- repeat, will NOT -- be released in 3-D as originally planned because the conversion to the format would not be completed by the film's November 19 release date.
"Despite everyone's best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality," the studio said in a statement. "We do not want to disappoint fans who have long-anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey, and to that end, we are releasing our film day-and-date on November 19, 2010 as planned. We, in alignment with our filmmakers, believe this is the best course to take in order to ensure that our audiences enjoy the consummate 'Harry Potter' experience."
Producer David Heyman and director David Yates backed the studio's decision. "For 10 years, we have worked alongside Alan Horn and the studio, whose priority has always been to preserve the integrity of Jo Rowling's books as we have adapted them to the screen," Heyman said in a statement. "This decision reflects that commitment."
Added Yates: "This decision, which we completely support, underscores the fact that Warner Bros. has always put quality first." Gotta love the show of unity, but that's to be expected from the people making the movie. The big question is: How will fans react?
We've never been huge supporters of converting movies to 3-D after the fact -- at best it can be unnecessary; at worst it can be "Clash of the Titans" -- but if it had been done properly, we wouldn't have minded some 3-D wizardry for "Deathly Hallows: Part 1." Still, it doesn't affect our enthusiasm for the film at all. We're just as pumped now as we were when we woke up this morning.
Of course, we will be treated to some three-dimensional "Potter" fun beginning July 15, 2011: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" is still on tap for both 2-D and 3-D versions.
Are you bummed... or glad that "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" won't be in 3-D?

Wes Craven, the legendary horror maestro behind the "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Scream" franchises and a bevy of other bone-chilling hits, returns to theaters today with his first writer-director effort in 16 years: the 3-D thriller "My Soul to Take."
So what inspired the filmmaker, who's certainly kept busy in the directing department lately, to sit down and write his first full-length screenplay since 1994's "The New Nightmare"? "I just realized that it had been a while since I'd written anything," he told MTV News recently. "And then, right around the same time, the idea for this movie popped into my head while I was taking a shower."
But that's only half the story. "This is also the most autobiographical of all my films," Craven admitted. We thought this was an interesting thing to say about a movie that tells of the Riverton Ripper, a fabled serial killer with multiple personalities/souls (only one of them a cold-blooded killer partial to gutting people) who returns to murder the seven children born the night he died... so we asked for some clarification.
"My father died when I was four, and the memories I have of him were that I was scared of him," Craven confided. "I think he had a bad temper, and that always kind of haunted me the rest of my life. I was always wondering who my father was. So that kind of mystery of the father by the son, wondering what of the father is in you that might pop up. That's one of the themes of the movie, of course."
Craven's relationship with his father wasn't the only aspect of his childhood that informed the movie, however. "I was raised in the Baptist Church -- you know, you can't got to movies, you can't smoke, you can't drink, you can't dance, all those things. I always felt like really naive and innocent in a way I didn't want to be, especially as I got into junior high and high school... Certainly Max Theirot's character Bug is an innocent at the beginning of the movie, but he's not at the end by any means... It's very much about the fallen angel, in a way, the angel that in order to become a man and know what's really going on has to lose his wings and learn the tough truths about life."
For more from Wes, including his decision to make "My Soul to Take" in 3-D, check out the videos above.
Will "My Soul To Take" take in your money at the box office this weekend? Tell us in the comments?
No musician would ever leave their instrument out in the wind, sun or rain without protection. They know that musical instruments must be taken care of. If you are a singer, then your instrument is your voice, and you must take care of it.
Before you sing, whether it's for a public performance or practice, you must warm up your body and your voice. If you're having a lesson, and you're about to start a more difficult piece, your singing tutor should ensure you warm up, but if you're practicing or performing without your teacher, then you must do this by yourself.

Glad it all could be work out, boys! Thankfully, you didn't rock the boat hard enough that you all ended up with nothing!

Barber's Adagio for Strings was voted as the saddest classical piece of all time in 2004. It is a true testament to how powerful and moving music can be, so powerful in fact that over seventy years later modern composers of electronic music and disc jockeys are keeping it alive in the artful music genre of Trance music.
Having already performed its Europe and North America segments throughout 2009, the tour is scheduled to arrive in Melbourne's Etihad Stadium December 1st through December 3rd. The band will resume performing in Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium on December 8th. U2 will then make its way towards Sydney's ANZ Stadium for a brief stop December 13th and 14th.
Adagio for Strings was a short piece composed by Samuel Barber in 1936 for his string quartet. The beauty and emotions can be heard as well as felt in this song and, in 2004, was named the saddest classical music ever created. More recently Barber's Adagio for Strings has become popular among many DJs and music producers who have covered and sampled the song and has seen great success over the past decade, particularly within Trance music.
If you were to head out tomorrow to purchase a new car, a new sound system, a computer or a television, you would probably take the time to check on the warranty that is offered. However, would you honestly take the time to look for what warranties come with the portable minidisc players that you are looking into? Probably not. Of course, in your defense, you might not see a reason to do so. After all, the players are not generally all that expensive. But money is money and there is no reason to waste money when it could be used to purchase other things. Just how many times do you want to have to repurchase a portable minidisc player? Probably not that often.

(Have you ever known anyone who thought his or her dog could talk?) Charlie sat at the table and looked over my brother's shoulder while he read the paper. In fact, whenever we sat at the kitchen table, Charlie sat in a chair just like a human, with an intelligent look on his face, and seemed to follow the conversation. He always looked at the speaker and seemed engrossed in the conversation, hanging on every word. I suspected that he wasn't as smart as he appeared, but John said he was smarter than he looked and questioned my intelligence.

Fired CNN host Rick Sanchez has apologized to Jon Stewart and anyone else he offended with what he calls “inartful comments” he made during a radio interview.
Sanchez issued a blanket statement Wednesday, five days after he was fired from CNN for his remarks, including branding Stewart a bigot and questioning whether Jews should be considered a minority.
In Sanchez’s statement, he said he had had a “very good conversation” on Monday with Stewart, who anchors the satirical “Daily Show” on Comedy Central.
Sanchez also says he has highest regards for CNN, his employer for six years.
Comedy Central declined to confirm Wednesday whether Stewart and Sanchez have spoken since Sanchez’s radio outbursts last week.

About a month after "How to Train Your Dragon" flew through theaters, DreamWorks knew they wanted a television series, sequel, live show and online virtual world to keep their franchise breathing fire. Now, just ahead of the film's DVD and Blu-ray releases on October 15, a 3-D theatrical sequel has been confirmed for 2013, and [...]
Surprise, surprise: Damon Lindelof's rewrite of Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel has allegedly made the film infinitely more awesome. Culture Vulture got the exclusive that executives at Fox read the new draft of the screenplay (originally penned by Jon Spaihts) and were "very pleased with it indeed."
While all of Vulture's sources were sworn to secrecy on details of the plot, two big reasons Fox was happier than a pig in poop are that Lindelof's version lacks any big-budget set pieces, which is likely to bring down the suggested $150 million budget, and the film could also could potentially pull off a PG-13 rating, making it more accessible to mass audiences. But the reason we're so psyched for this script is the news that Lindelof and Scott are returning the sci-fi action franchise to the horror-suspense roots planted by Scott's original "Alien."
Focusing on suspense over the elaborately violent action sequences that have characterized the recent "Alien vs. Predator" movies (which this prequel is pretending do not exist, by the way -- shocker!) explains why a PG-13 rating is feasible, despite Scott's earlier suggestion that the movie would be "really tough, really nasty" and closer to an R rating.
One of Vulture's sources explains: "The thinking is that if the original 'Alien' were released today, minus the F-bombs, you could still get a PG-13. 'Alien' is a very 'Jaws'-ian movie: There’s no sex, and while there's lots of violence, most of it is off-camera. Maybe you’d have to cut away from certain scenes two seconds earlier, but it could be done."
Some other exciting news on the "Alien" prequel front? Vulture also learned that Natalie Portman is the first choice to play the lead character of a female Colonial Marine general, with "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo's" Noomi Rapace being a close second. Considering that "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" seems to have stalled and she's turned down Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity," it's nice to see that she's still (hopefully) looking into some awesomely nerdy and just plain awesome material.
Would you like to see the "Alien" prequel with a PG-13 rating? And would Natalie Portman make a great kicker of alien butt? Let us know in the comments!

This is a hot cover, y’all. Mary J. looks fantastic in all her photos but this tribute to Diana Ross is just too amazing. I can’t think of a more fitting person to pay homage to Diana Ross than the Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige. Congratulations goes out to Ebony magazine on their 65th anniversary … here’s to another 65 years and beyond!
Let's face it. Learning how to play guitar is no joke. It always takes time and dedication not just to become better but to become proficient. It's true that the best way to learn guitar is through private lessons. Here, you will be able to learn face to face with the master guitarist. However, there are disadvantages on taking up private lessons. On the first place your time is only limited at about an hour or so.

In advance of the world premiere of his new slasher flick "Savage County" on MTV2 this Thursday, October 7, at 11 p.m. (10 p.m. Central), director David Harris has been guest-blogging on MTV News to share some thoughts on making the film. He talked about marketing the movie in yesterday's post, and today he offers up some horror-movie-making tips. Come back tomorrow for his third and final blog.
I want to make another movie for all kinds of reasons: It's my dream to be a director... Maybe I'll make money at it someday... I want to have one of those chairs with my name on the back... But, more than anything, I want to make another movie because I learned so much the first time around that it seems like a waste not to use that knowledge.
Making movies is now what having a band used to be. A lot of people do it, and with digital cameras everywhere, it's an accessible way to express yourself. Everybody from Hitchcock to Tarantino has excellent advice on the creative process that's only a Google search away. There's nothing I can impart about the art of filmmaking that comes close to them, BUT I'm pretty sure I have some practical advice on making your first horror movie that they couldn't give you.
Here are my top five tips:
1. Pack a Flashlight
Scouting locations for a horror movie is very much like being in a horror movie. Everyone who knows of a scary, horrible place will suggest you visit -- whether it fits your movie or not. Scouting "Savage County," we found ourselves knee-deep in water in an abandoned basement autopsy room/morgue/body incinerator. Did we bring a flashlight? Nope. We used the flash on a digital camera to light up the room every couple of feet. It was straight out of "Quarantine." Flashlights are cheap; we were dumb.
2. Buy Waders
These are knee-high thick rubber boots -- you can buy heavy-duty hunting versions at Walmart. I never saw leeches before scouting Savage County. Besides, this will come in handy when you turn over a board and reveal the guy pictured to the right.
3. More Blood! More Dirt!
Your cast arrives in the morning. They're good-looking, fresh-faced, ready to work... You put a little blood on them and they look terrible, but not horror-movie terrible. The actors may look at you pleadingly ("Please, don't put any more sticky crap on me!"). Ignore them.
4. Sweat the Small Stuff
We had plenty of days when someone could have gotten killed if something big went wrong. But the one day that actually went to hell (our first day -- yay!) there were about a dozen small things going wrong. Questions to ask: Was the sound guy in the bathroom when the van left for set? Did the grips bring the keys to their truck? Does the production assistant really know how to drive a van? If not, you might find yourself without a sound guy, or lights, with a van in a pond blocking your access to set. Run through checklists like you've got OCD... or hire someone with actual OCD.
5. Shoot Where They're Excited to Have You
I think it's still statistically most likely that if you're reading this, you don't live in a "production hub." I live in L.A. now, and there are a ton of advantages to making movies here, but one big disadvantage is that if you're just starting out, the world isn't lining up to help you out. When we decided to shoot "Savage County" in Memphis, I didn't know how lucky we'd be. The town isn't a stranger to production ("Hustle & Flow," "The Client" and "Walk the Line" were filmed there), but there are enough creative, talented people there who aren't often asked to contribute to a film... but when they are asked, they're excited to help (guys like the REAL Crittenden County Fire Department, who made the shirts pictured for the movie so they'd be authentic). Wherever that excitement comes from, wherever you can find that support -- that's where you should make your movie. It's easy to take that support for granted, but it could be the thing that makes your first film possible.
Will you tune in for the "Savage County" world premiere on Thursday?
